The concept that
has become FrogandToad began late in the 1990's,
after the original owners, Peter and Abi Weeks,
travelled around Australia on a motorbike. It was
not long into their journey before Peter and Abi
fell in love with their experience of this
beautiful wide land, and they decided to create a
web site to share their experiences, in the format
of an online guide that would benefit other
tourists and travellers planning on coming to and
travelling within Australia. Their aim was to have
a site that was unbiased and thorough - not just to
give information about the popular tourist areas,
but to tell about all Australia's regions.
In 2003,
FrogandToad was sold to Matt and Cath Halloran
(Accom.Com.Au Pty Ltd), who have an aim to continue
developing the site as Australia's Ultimate Online
Guide.
Dubbed
"Australia's Ultimate Online Guide", FrogandToad
has grown tremendously since it was first put
online in 1999. The site currently contains 5000+
pages of information, features thousands of
photographs and businesses, and achieves literally
millions of hits per month from website visitors
located in over 90 countries around the world.
FrogandToad's Indigenous
Australians
section is a valuable resource, which is often used
for project material and in educational
institutions worldwide.
FrogandToad
operates on a mix of business listings,
complemented by secure online reservations for
flights, accommodation, tours and car hire. The
site is structured as an online guide, with
visitors able to find information and links for
virtually every region in Australia. Each region
has listings for various accomomdation, dining,
nightlife, activities and tours, transport, and
essential information options.
Visitors are
easily able to browse through the site using
FrogandToad's simple navigational structure. Every
page on the site is laid out the same, with the
States and Territories of Australia listed across
the top of the page (users are also able to use
Australian maps located on the home page or
Australia Map page). Once a state is selected, the
options for various regions within that state are
displayed. Similarly, once a region is selected,
the options for the various geographical areas
within that region are displayed. Once the visitor
has selected the geographical area within the
region (eg Australia -> New South Wales ->
Inner Sydney -> Sydney CBD), a menu is presented
on the left hand side of the screen for visitors to
be able to view the various accomomdation, dining,
nightlife, activities and tours, transport, and
essential information options within that
areas.
The FrogandToad
site also features an extensive section on
Indigenous
Australia,
a valuable resource that is often used for project
material by students and in educational
institutions around the world.
A few cosmetic
changes were made to FrogandToad throughout 2004,
adding new affiliate links, and giving the site a
more contemporary feel. Containing a mix of
advertised business listings combined with
affiliate links for car hire, Virgin Blue flight
reservations, day and extended tours, last minute
accommodation, packaged accommodation, and travel
accessories, the site continues to maintain and
grow its unique online presence both in Australia
and overseas.
2005 sees
FrogandToad undergo a major overhaul, with a brand
new site due to be launched early in 2006. With a
new name, and a number of exciting new developments
planned for the site, FrogandToad will be bigger,
bolder and will be positioned firmly as the
Ultimate Online Guide for those who want to
Travel
Around Australia.
Stand by to be impressed.
